Roy Cooper — North Carolina

  • He was born in Nash County, North Carolina.
  • Cooper’s mother was a school teacher, and his father was a farmer and lawyer.
  • Cooper worked on his family’s farm when he was growing up, and he was named after his father, Roy Cooper Jr.
  • Cooper earned a degree in law from UNC.
  • Cooper went to public school growing up.
  • Cooper is married to Kristin Cooper, and they have three daughters together. Their names are Hilary, Natalie, and Claire.
  • Cooper has served as a deacon in his church, and he has also taught Sunday school.
  • Cooper has also worked as a tutor to students locally.
  • He was a partner in a law firm from 1982–2000.
  • Cooper was a North Carolina Representative from 1981–1991.
  • Cooper was a North Carolina Senator from 1991–2000.
  • Starting in 2000, Cooper was elected the Attorney General of North Carolina, and he served for four terms.
  • Cooper has been the governor since 2017.

  • With a target on his back, Cooper was accused of illegally accepting millions of dollars from a pipeline company. However, while the ethics of Cooper were put into question with the situation, the complaint was seen as something planned and did not impact his reputation much.
